Cornelia Tapparelli

Cornelia Tapparelli is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute Lausanne. In 2013 she defended her doctoral thesis on ornament in contemporary architecture under the direction of Jacques Lucan with Antoine Picon and Philip Ursprung among the jury. She completed her doctorate in part with research granted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at the Canadian Center of Architecture in Montreal (spring 2011) and as a visiting student at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (spring 2012). The thesis built on experience gained as a curatorial assistant at the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel for the exhibition “Re-Sampling Ornament” (2008) and on her collaboration in the Department of Knowledge Management at Herzog & de Meuron Architects (2006-2007). Tapparelli completed a Master of Advanced Studies in architectural history and theory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, and studied architecture at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne where she completed her master’s thesis in 2005. From 2002-2005 she was on the editoral board of Rivista Tecnica and is currently on the editorial board of matières. Both publications look at contemporary architecture in Switzerland and abroad. She has widely published on internationally renown magazines such as Archithese, Bauwelt, Casabella and others.
